I’m concerned with the stunning lack of individuality, integrity and loss of culture in this country. It seems that concepts and events from fifty years ago have largely gone unchallenged and are accepted as the norm. We have implicitly agreed to let ourselves believe that others will figure things out for us while we sit back and mow the lawn. Our lifestyle must fit into a certain pattern, never going too far beyond the boundaries of our own ideals. Mundane subdivision after subdivision is built, pushing slogans like, “build to suit” and “buy new, don’t renovate”, when in reality, nothing is built to suit you, each house is the same as every other generic house. We allow historical buildings, neighborhoods and nature to be leveled for a yet another new box. We allow our financial institutions to work and do business unfairly and cruelly. We allow our government to rule in the name of the people, but we the people are lethargic. We are the same as Levittown was fifty some years ago, a mass produced culture losing our identity. We are empty.
